NO FUNDING OF THEIR OWN: SILVER BULLETS WON'T PLAY THIS YEAR

Silver Bullets co-Owner Paul Beckham confirmed Friday
that, "unable to find a sponsor," the women's pro baseball
team "will not field" a squad this year, according to Tim
Tucker of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. Beckham: "For this
year, it's just not there. ... We have hopes of using that
time to build interest from sponsors for 1999." After Coors
Brewing pulled out after last season as the team's sponsor,
the Silver Bullets' owners pursued prospective sponsors,
"but it never really got past the discussion stage," Beckham
said. Beckham: "Nothing came close, really." Beckham added
that it takes "at least" $1.5M a year to operate the team on
     a break-even basis (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 4/18).
