          Fresno State coach JERRY TARKANIAN invited "60 Minutes"
     correspondent MIKE WALLACE to the NIT semifinals and told
     Wallace he didn't appreciate his handling of "60 Minutes"
     story on the team earlier this month.  Tarkanian to Wallace:
     "I invited you here to tell you to your face that you lied
     to us."  Tarkanian called the report old news, to which
     Wallace replied, "It was new to America" (Mult., 3/26).
     ....Retired Giants GM GEORGE YOUNG won The Sporting News'
     Exec of the Year for "a record fifth time" (USA TODAY,
     3/26)....Nets F KEITH VAN HORN will be featured in the MTV
     special "Making the Cut," which airs tonight at 10:30pm ET
     (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/26)....Former NHLPA Exec Dir ALAN
     EAGLESON resigned from the Hockey Hall of Fame.  Eighteen
     members threatened to quit the Hall if Eagleson remained
     (GLOBE & MAIL, 3/26). ...DAILY VARIETY'S Michael Fleming
     reports that a MUHAMMAD ALI biopic -- produced by JON PETERS
     and COLUMBIA -- is "seeming to gain steam."  WILL SMITH has
     "long been attached" to play Ali, and RON HOWARD "might"
     direct the film (DAILY VARIETY, 3/26).
