NIKE TO LAY OFF 300 THIS WEEK, THOUGH TOP EXECS SEEM SAFE

Nike will "shed 300 temporary workers this week, the
first step in a larger layoff that could be announced March
18," according to Jeff Manning of the Portland OREGONIAN.
But Manning reported, "Widespread talk that multiple senior
executives were on their way out has not proven accurate."
Claire Hamill, who was VP/Global Footwear, has been
reassigned to assist Nike President Tom Clarke with the
company's restructuring. Nike VP/Corporate Brand Management
Mark Parker assumed Hamill's footwear responsibilities.
Nike Dir of Communications Lee Weinstein said that Andy
Mooney, VP/Equipment Division, has assumed responsibility
for some "key aspects of the apparel operation," including
soccer, golf and the Michael Jordan brand (OREGONIAN, 3/12).
