ZOELLER BECOMING MORE MARKETABLE? CASEY MARTIN SAYS HE CAN

Fuzzy Zoeller has signed an equipment endorsement deal with CA-based Daiwa Golf that, with incentives, could pay almost $1M over three years, according to Phil Richards of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS. Zoeller has also signed with FL-based sunglasses manufacturer Ocean Waves, which plans to have a Fuzzy Zoeller signature line in stores by September. Zoeller: "It makes me feel good. Hopefully, I can sell some product." The deals follow Zoeller's recent apparel contract with CO-based Sport-Haley (STAR-NEWS, 1/26). MARTIN CAN: In his new Nike "I Can" spot from Wieden & Kennedy, Casey Martin is seated and filmed from the shoulders up. Martin: "I want people to see that I'm no different than anybody else, that I can hit the shots just like anyone else. And I don't want them to take pity on me because I limp around. I want them to say, 'You can play.' And sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. But I don't want to be known as a person with a disability so much as I want to be known as a good golfer. I mean, now I'm young. Might as well chase your dreams while you're young." The spot then shows Martin seated with a golf club. His voiceover says, "I mean, before it's too late. I'm not going to let my leg stop me." During Martin's voiceover the "I Can" tag appears on screen followed by the words "play through," reading, "I can play through." "I can" then fades out followed by "play through" leaving "nike" at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen before the final fade out (THE DAILY).
