HEADRICK SEEING PURPLE; SET TO BID ON VIKES IN NEXT FEW DAYS

Vikings President Roger Headrick said his bid to buy
the team "will be submitted in the coming three days, but
that he is uncertain if he will hold 30 percent interest in
his ownership group," according to Don Banks of the
Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Headrick also said that his
"standing within the league" will give his group "the
advantage of closing a sale quicker than any competing
group." Headrick: "I don't think anyone's going to close a
sale faster than I am." Headrick's group includes AL-based
surgeon Larry Lemak, but Banks writes that "no one, even
Headrick, seems to know the group's final configuration"
(STAR TRIBUNE, 1/28). But columnist Dan Barreiro writes,
"As long as Headrick owns it -- or runs it -- the Vikings
ship is dead in the water" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 1/28).
WAITING GAME: Former Nuggets/Spurs Owner Red McCombs
said that he "would accept as little as 60 percent of the
team, even though his bid is for a 100 percent stake,"
according to Travis Poling of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS.
McCombs said that the Vikings are "at least a week away from
making a decision." McCombs' original offer was "about"
$150M. McCombs added that his offer "comes with no
guarantee to keep the team in Minnesota," but that he "has
no intention of breaking the Vikings' lease at the 16-year
old Metrodome," which expires in 2012 (EXPRESS-NEWS, 1/28).
