FACILITY NOTES

          Plans for a new football stadium at UConn ended
     yesterday as CT Gov. John Rowland and legislative leaders
     said that they "lacked the votes to approve the
     controversial plan," according to Keating & Lender of the
     HARTFORD COURANT.  Officials "canceled plans" to hold a
     special session for a pre-Christmas vote (HARTFORD COURANT,
     11/26)....Maple Leafs President Ken Dryden, on speculation
     that the team is "playing games" regarding a new arena at
     Exhibition Place: "Our focus is clearly on the Ex.  But in
     the next 80 days ... we have to find out if the whole
     project is viable, not just the arena.  We want somewhere
     people can call a destination.  It's got to feel like a
     living place, so when you walk out of the rink, you're not
     just going to feel like getting in your car" (TORONTO SUN,
     11/26)....Groundbreaking was held yesterday to commemorate
     improvements being made to San Jose's Spartan Stadium.  The
     $1.5M project is a joint effort of the City of San Jose, the
     MLS Clash, and SJSU (Spartan Stadium).
