EASY PARTNERS: COMPAQ NOT QUITE AT THE SUMMIT

In Houston, the Arena Operating Co. (AOC) President
Steve Patterson said that although AOC has concluded an
agreement with Compaq Computer Corp. to rename The Summit
the Compaq Center, the Houston City Council still has to
approve the name change. Patterson added the "change is not
effective until this approval is granted. ... Recent
references to the facility as Compaq Center were premature"
(AOC). In Houston, John Williams reports that once city
approval is granted, AOC "intends to put the name Compaq
Center everywhere The Summit name has been displayed,"
including on the basketball floor. Rockets Senior Exec VP
John Thomas said their attorneys are reviewing the AOC's
deal with Compaq (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/16).
