HICKS MUSE CONFIRMS SFX DEAL, TOPS CBS IN RADIO WAVES

Dallas-based Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst Inc. confirmed
Monday that it plans to pay $2.1B for radio company SFX
Broadcasting, according to John Kirkpatrick of the DALLAS
MORNING NEWS. In addition, sources close to Hicks Muse said
that the company's "next target" is expected to be American
Radio Systems (ARS), the nation's fifth-largest radio owner,
which would probably cost more than $2B. The SFX deal
"alone will push" Hicks, Muse to No. 1 in terms of revenue
and audience size among U.S. radio broadcasters, ahead of
Westinghouse/CBS. Tom Hicks also owns the Stars (DALLAS
MORNING NEWS, 8/26). On the NASDAQ Monday, SFX class A
     shares jumped 9.2% to $74 1/8 a share (USA TODAY, 8/26).
