RATINGS ROUND-UP: A LOOK AT WEEKEND OVERNIGHTS

          CBS' coverage of the PGA Tour's Buick Open earned a 2.9
     overnight in 38 markets Saturday, a 45% increase over '96,
     according to Rudy Martzke of USA TODAY.  Sunday's coverage
     earned a 4.1, "more than double" the 2.0 in '96.  Fox's
     coverage of the Braves-Marlins earned a season-high 4.1
     overnight, 32% above '96 and NBC's World Track & Field
     Championships coverage earned a 3.4 overnight on Sunday, up
     36% from ABC's overnight rating in '95 (USA TODAY, 8/12).
          NFL PRESEASON: In Dallas, the Cowboys-Patriots game
     Friday earned a 15.3 on KDFW-TV (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 8/12). 
     In Boston, it earned a 17.1 on WCVB (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/12).
     ...In Baltimore, the Ravens-Jets on Friday earned a 5.7/10
     (Baltimore SUN, 8/12).  During the hour that the Orioles and
     Ravens were on at the same time, the Orioles "outpointed"
     the Ravens 5.1/9 to 4.1/7 (Baltimore SUN, 8/12)....The
     Redskins-Oilers game Saturday earned a 16.3/32 on DC's WJLA,
     "just about double the audience" of the next most popular
     weekend TV show on any DC station (WASHINGTON POST, 8/12).
