THOMAS GETS HIS THOMSON TWINS? NEW PARTNER IDENTIFIED

          Peter and David Thomson, sons of Canadian "media baron"
     Ken Thomson, are a "key component" of the consortium Raptors
     VP Isiah Thomas has put together to buy the team from Owner
     Allan Slaight, according to Craig Daniels of the TORONTO
     SUN.  However, Daniels writes, "a source said it appears the
     Thomsons want to be involved only if a way can be found to
     unite the Maple Leafs and Raptors and solve the arena wars. 
     One source said that the Teachers' Pension Plan, part-owners
     of Maple Leaf Gardens, seeks the same arrangement, and would
     view a Thomson-led group favorably."  But "it appears the
     board at Maple Leaf Gardens may not be united in that aim." 
     If the Raptors and Maple Leafs joined on a facility, the
     Thomsons would give the teams "the financial wherewithal" to
     be competitive in the marketplace.  Daniels adds that
     sources also "suggested yesterday that if the sale to Thomas
     did not go through, Slaight would offer the team" to MLG
     Minority Owner Larry Tanenbaum (TORONTO SUN, 7/31).
