In Monday's HARTFORD COURANT, John Altavilla reported
that after Kmart "dropped" Fuzzy Zoeller shortly after his
comments regarding Tiger Woods at The Masters, "now, Dunlop,
the equipment manufacturer that originally issued a
statement supporting him, has followed suit." Altavilla
wrote that Zoeller played Taylor Made clubs for the first
three rounds of last weekend's Greater Hartford Open, before
playing Dunlops in the final round (HARTFORD COURANT, 7/28).
DUNLOP RESPONSE: A spokesperson for Dunlop Maxfli told
THE DAILY that Zoeller's club deal with Focus Golf, the
exclusive licensee for Dunlop golf clubs, expired recently
and has yet to be renewed. Zoeller will continue to play
Maxfli golf balls as part of a separate deal through '98.
Focus Golf Exec VP John Gestwicki told THE DAILY yesterday,
"We have not yet renegotiated with Fuzzy on a renewal term.
We don't mean to communicate anything more than that. We
feel that Fuzzy has helped us and the Dunlop brand greatly.
There are questions that come up with any contract re-
negotiation" (THE DAILY).
