CHARLOTTE COMPANY LOOKS TO STEP UP MARKETING OF NEW GAME

          Charlotte-based Sports Training & Entertainment
Products Inc. (STEP) is marketing a new basketball
entertainment system, "In The Zone," a game played on a
rectangular court with a computerized, moving regulation
backboard, according to Doug Smith of the CHARLOTTE
OBSERVER. Smith wrote that consumer tests at the ACC Men's
Basketball Tournament and at the NBA Draft Party in
Charlotte "confirmed ... that there's a potential market for
the game." STEP is "gearing up for a three-pronged"
marketing effort: targeting special events; college and pro
teams to use the game as training; and the "most lucrative
market of all: amusement parks and entertainment
attractions." STEP will display the game at the Int'l
Assoc. of Amusement Parks & Attractions in November in
Orlando, which "typically attracts 23,000 buyers from more
than 80 countries" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 7/6).
