TWINS WILL HAVE SPECIAL SESSION, GOVERNOR LOOKS TO ST. PAUL

          MN Gov. Arne Carlson said "he is convinced the Twins
     will be sold and moved unless the Legislature acts quickly,"
     and announced "that he will call a special session in
     September to consider a stadium-funding bill," according to
     Whereatt & Weiner of the Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE.  Carlson,
     in a letter to all 201 MN legislators: "If we as a state
     have any intentions of keeping this team, it is imperative
     that we deal with this issue in the next several months." 
     Carlson said he "will not require prior agreement on how to
     finance a stadium, the cost of which has ranged from $306
     million to $506 million, the most recent estimate, for a
     retractable roof stadium."  Carlson also "urged St. Paul to
     put forward a proposal to house a baseball stadium,
     challenging an assumption that a new ballpark would be in
     Minneapolis" (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 6/10).
