Houston leaders "have grown increasingly angry at
Dallas' tactics in the arena financing debate" over the
sports facilities bill sponsored by State Rep. Kim Brimer,
according to Todd Gillman of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS.
Houston Mayor Bob Lanier has "complained that Dallas has
hampered" Houston's arena plans, and that his city is
"caught in the cross fire" between Dallas and Arlington,
whose legislators are "barely on speaking terms over
allegations that Arlington is plotting to steal" the Mavs
and Stars. Craig McDaniel, of the Dallas City Council's
legislative committee: "We've done what we've needed to do
to protect our interests" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 5/19).
'TIL TUESDAY: In Houston, John Williams writes that
Senate debate on the Brimer bill has been postponed until
tomorrow as Dallas and Arlington delegations continue to
discuss issues of contention in the bill. Dallas senators
"hope to work out" an amendment that would allow their
county "to impose higher toll road fees that could be used
for an arena" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 5/19).
