GIANTS CHARTER SEAT SALES SET TO SURPASS PROJECTIONS

The MLB Giants have put their remaining charter seat
licenses in their planned new park are on sale, as 9,000 of
13,700 licenses have already been sold to season ticket
holders, leaving 4,700 licenses "still up for grabs,"
according to Torri Minton of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The
charter rights weren't going to go on sale until the summer,
but the Giants said the sales "have been much more brisk
than expected." The Giants are the first MLB team to offer
a charter seat program, and the team "expected" to raise
$40M through the sale to help finance its new $255M
ballpark. Giants Exec VP Larry Baer: "[T]here's no doubt
that we're going to surpass our projections for charter seat
revenue" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/22). In contrast to the
CHRONICLE, a report in the S.F. BUSINESS TIMES said charter
seats are "rounding third -- albeit sluggishly" (S.F.
     BUSINESS CHRONICLE, 4/21 issue).
