USOC EXPECTS TELECOM, BANKING & AUTO SPONSORS BY YEAR'S END

          Sponsorship deals for the 2002 Winter Games in the
     telecom, banking and automotive categories are "expected to
     be signed up by year's end," according to Mike Gorrell of
     the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE.  USOC Marketing Dir John Krimsky:
     "We've made 30 presentations to American corporations
     interested in sponsorship and not a single one said no.  A
     few said 'That's awfully expensive,' but there were no
     no's."  Krimsky said that OPUS, the joint marketing venture
     between the USOC and the SLOC, has received commitments of
     cash and equipment worth roughly $100M; its eight-year goal
     is $719M.  Krimsky added OPUS "intends to hire 18 employees
     soon," and "could have" 30 staff members and 10 interns by
     2002 (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 4/14).
          FUTURE PLANS:  SLOC trustees set up a retirement plan
     for SLOC President Tom Welch and Senior VPs Dave Johnson and
     Gordon Crabtree where they can begin collecting pensions
     valued at over $3M when they "retire from the business of
     putting on" the 2002 Games (Lisa Roche, DESERET NEWS, 4/15).
