IT'S ALL ABOUT PERIWINKLE: ANGELS UNVEIL NEW UNIFORMS

The Angels unveiled their new uniforms yesterday,
featuring navy, periwinkle and red as primary team colors,
with medium blue, light blue, gold and bronze as secondary
colors. The Angels new logos, one featuring crossed bats
over a home plate with the words "ANAHEIM ANGELS," and a
secondary logo featuring the letter "A" and a wing, were
designed by Disney Consumer Products and the Angels, with
approval by MLBP. The new home uniform includes a navy blue
cap and bill, with a white jersey with navy pinstripes and
solid navy sleeves and the "Angels" script with the logo on
the front, and white pants with navy pinstripes. The road
uniforms are similar, with grey replacing white. An
alternate jersey is navy with periwinkle sleeves. Authentic
products are licensed by New Era (Cap), Starter (jacket),
Russell (uniform) and Majestic (practice jersey) (Angels).
REVIEWS ARE IN: In L.A., TIMES Fashion Editor Mimi
Avins: "There is a certain charm to the Angels' new look.
The old, simple, bordering-on-boring Y-necked uniform in
white has been replaced by a pinstriped outfit with a logo
     worthy of a superhero" (L.A. TIMES, 2/12).
CLOSE CALL: The TIMES' John Weyler notes the team was
going to unveil a different uniform months ago, but
"somebody managed to persuade Disney's creative design
people that there was nothing cool about a professional
ballplayer decked out in wildly striped sleeves and
periwinkle." Weyler adds the alternate jersey "looks as if
it should have 'Big Al's Pizza' across the back" (L.A.
     TIMES, 2/12).
