MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          Marvel Entertainment Group Inc. expects to report a net
     loss of $405M to $440M for the fourth quarter, "largely" due
     to a write-off of "goodwill associated with its trading-card
     unit" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/28)....ESPN and Holiday Inn
     inked a multi-year marketing partnership including ESPN,
     ESPN2, ESPNEWS and ESPNET SportsZone.  The deal runs through
     September and features a national consumer sweepstakes
     (ESPN)....Pennzoil's new racing promo will fly five winners
     and their friends to see 1,100 miles of auto racing on June
     1.  The "Pennzoil 1100," a spring promotional contest, will
     feature a trip for two to the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-
     Cola 600 as the prize (HOUSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL, 1/27).
     ....Alphabet City Records, the company with sports-themed
     CD's, has joined with the Collegiate Licensing Company to
     produce CD collections for many of college sports' top 20
     programs.  The products will be sold by retailers in the
     college markets and by mail-order (Alphabet City Records).
