Saints Owner and NFL Finance Committee Chair Tom Benson
said the Vikings' ten owners have signed an agreement
guaranteeing that one of the ten will own at least 30% of
the team, according to Sid Hartman in the Minneapolis STAR
TRIBUNE. Benson: "This thing has been dragging along for
five years. We have a league rule that must be lived up to.
We expect this problem to be worked out at our March
meeting" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 1/25).
DEBT DOUBTS: Former Vikings Owner Irwin Jacobs wrote
an op-ed in the STAR TRIBUNE. Jacobs: "It should be known
that the only reason the Vikings are in debt is because they
put the purchase of my Vikings stock directly into the
Football Club. ... I suggest that the present owners of the
Minnesota Vikings use their own resources for the risks and
the rewards of owning a professional football team, and stop
their crybaby, threatening tactics in their attempt to
renegotiate a binding, legal contract, and most importantly,
honor their commitment to keep football where it is, at the
Metrodome" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 1/25).
