NFL INTERNATIONAL MEETS THE PRESS IN NEW ORLEANS

The NFL plans to hold another American Bowl game in
Canada this summer and, while the league would like to play
in Vancouver, "there's a strong possibility the game will
wind up in Toronto for the second time," according to Gary
Picknell of the TORONTO SUN. The announcement was made at
an NFL International press conference in New Orleans. NFL
Int'l Senior VP Don Garber: "We want to be in Western Canada
in the near future, whether or not we can pull it off this
year" (TORONTO SUN, 1/24). Garber also "semi-officially"
put the lid on speculation of a possible expansion team in
Toronto by saying it was "not in the foreseeable future."
But he confirmed talks between the CFL and NFL about a
possible relationship, adding that talks could resume after
the Super Bowl (Dave Perkins, TORONTO STAR, 1/24). In
Edmonton, Terry Jones writes from the press conference that
"if and when the CFL gets its house cleaned, the NFL from
all indications, appears to be ready to make a deal and
become kissing cousins" (EDMONTON SUN, 1/24).
