PRESIDENT CLINTON COMMENTS ON RODMAN'S "HEART OF HEARTS"

President Clinton yesterday gave "his presidential seal
of disapproval on [Dennis] Rodman's latest wayward act,"
according to Bob Verdi in the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Clinton:
"I'm sure in his heart of hearts he regrets doing that ...
"There's lots of little kids out there, and they have to be
fascinated by him. So I hope he'll find a way to say,
'That's something I shouldn't have done,' I'm not going to
do that anymore.'" Verdi: "Rodman is only an athlete/
entertainer and the more we try to jam his square-painted
head into the round hole of a role model, the more
hysterical this episode becomes" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 1/24). In
N.Y., Phil Mushnick writes that "Rodman, of all people, has
it right. He says he doesn't need psychological counseling.
What for? For being an astute businessman? For promoting
his bad-boy image just as the NBA, under [NBA Commissioner
David] Stern, marketed Rodman's cheapshot Piston teams as
the Bad Boys?" (N.Y. POST, 1/24).
