USOC TAKES SECOND LOOK AT 2008 SUMMER OLYMPIC BIDDING

Five months after its leaders regarded the issue "moot,"
the USOC will re-examine the bidding for the 2008 Summer
Olympics at the board of directors' meeting on February 15-
16, according to Mike Spence of the Colorado Springs GAZETTE
TELEGRAPH. USOC leaders will have an "informational session"
for cities interested in hosting the Olympics or other
Olympic events. At least six cities, including Boston,
Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, New York and Seattle, are
anticipated to bid for the 2008 Games. Hybl: "I support
looking into whether 2008 is feasible or whether it's more
appropriate for the USOC to look at a year like 2012"
     (Colorado Springs GAZETTE TELEGRAPH, 1/20).
SWOOSH RUMORS: Nike "is said to have held preliminary
discussions" with the organizers of the 2002 Winter Olympics
in Salt Lake City regarding a potential marketing
relationship. USOC Deputy Secretary General John Krimsky Jr.
said "he was optimistic about forming a more complementary
relationship with Nike" (AD AGE ONLINE, 1/20).
