CAN'T GET ENOUGH VALDERAMA: MLS SEASON-TICKET SALES UP

          MLS Commissioner Doug Logan said season-ticket sales
     for the league have increased 18% over this time last year,
     according to Steven Goff of the WASHINGTON POST.  The ten-
     team league, which has sold 24,116 season tickets overall,
     has a goal of 50,000 by opening day on March 22 (WASHINGTON
     POST, 1/16).  The New England Revolution, despite missing
     the playoffs last year, lead MLS in season-ticket sales with
     over 5,000 (Frank Dell'Apa, BOSTON GLOBE, 1/16).
          CUP SALES: Ticket sales for U.S. Cup '97 have reached
     nearly 32,000 for Friday's games at Jack Murphy, 60,000 for
     January 19 at the Rose Bowl, and 35,000 for January 22 at
     the Rose Bowl.  The event is a series of doubleheaders with
     the U.S., Mexico, Denmark and Peru (THE DAILY).
