FRANCHISE NOTES

     The Cowboys-Dolphins game attracted 75,283, the largest
crowd in the history of Pro Player Stadium (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
10/28)....In addition to new uniforms, the Pistons will unveil a
new floor, new mascot and new dance team at the Palace at Auburn
Hills (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 10/28)....Devil Rays Managing General
Partner Vince Naimoli announced Pepsi, Tropicana and First Union
have been signed on as team sponsors and that the team, which
projected a loss for '95-'97, is "on budget."  Anheuser-Busch and
Southwest Airlines are also expected to become sponsors shortly.
Naimoli met with the Tampa Chamber of Commerce to "step up ticket
sales."  Naimoli: "We have not sold too many tickets in
Hillsborough [County] and virtually none to businesses (ST. PETE
TIMES, 10/27)....Reed Abelson of the N.Y. TIMES notes the NHL
Panthers IPO in a story entitled, "A Yellow Light Is Blinking for
a Sizzling IPO Market."  Robert Natale, Editor of Standard &
Poor's Emerging and Special Situations newsletter:  "[The team]
has never earned money and could run through its capital in a
couple of years.  Why would anyone buy this?" (N.Y. TIMES,
10/27). ...Phillies President Bill Giles, on potentially selling
his share of the club: "I hate to disappoint all my admirers, but
I don't want to sell, and nobody in my group wants to"
(PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 10/27).
