ALTHOUGH NIKE ASKED, DOLE JUST WON'T STOP USING IT

GOP Presidential nominee Bob Dole's use of "Just Don't Do
It," and its similarity to Nike's "Just Do It" tag, is profiled
by Groer & Gerhart of the WASHINGTON POST. Nike's Dir of PR Jim
Small said the Nike campaign "is cemented in consumers' minds as
a rallying cry to get off the couch and play sports." He
reiterated Nike is also "uncomfortable about being brought into
the political arena." When asked about Nike's "Griffey for
President" campaign, Small said, "that was a tongue-in-cheek
advertising campaign, and this is something different." Dole
spokesperson Christina Martin said the "Just Don't Do It" slogan
is "a modification of Nancy Reagan's 'Just Say No' campaign."
Martin: "It's a very simple, very direct, very hard-hitting
message for America's teens. You will continue to hear it again"
(WASHINGTON POST, 9/20).
