STADIUM NOTES

     A announcement on the sale of naming rights and the source
of private funding for a proposed new 35,000-seat baseball
ballpark in Pittsburgh "could be near."  Pirates Owner Kevin
McClatchy: "I think there's a lot better chance than not, this
ballpark is going to be built. We're going to have a private
contributor" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 9/19). ...In its 30 year
lease agreement with the Lightning, the Tampa Sports Authority
forgot to ask for a private box of its own at the $154M Ice
Palace arena and is now "begging" Lightning Gov. David LeFevre
for a box when the facility opens next month (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
9/19)....Anti-tax activists filed suit in Wayne County Circuit
Court over a Wayne County "tourist tax" referendum designed to
raise $80M for the downtown stadiums that will house the Lions
and Tigers (DETROIT NEWS, 9/20).
