OLYMPIC NOTES

The Berlin newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported the IOC paid
$7.3M in "hush money" to Monique Berlioux when it dismissed her
as administrative chief in '85, according to the PHILADELPHIA
DAILY NEWS. There were rumors at the time that Berlioux was
dismissed because a "tell-all book" on the IOC was in the works,
but none was ever published (PHILA. DAILY NEWS, 9/19)....The
anti-car theft devices, The Club, hired ACOG Security Chief
William Rathburn to "front their ads." CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
Columnist Phil Rosenthal: "OK. Let's see now. Rathburn's crack
team allowed a man with a knife and a loaded .45-caliber Smith &
Wesson to walk into the Opening Ceremony, attended by Bill
Clinton and other world dignitaries, without so much as a speed
bump to stop him. And then, you might recall, there was a bit of
an explosion, which left two dead and scores injured, a crime
that remains unsolved. But, hey, it's your car" (CHICAGO SUN-
TIMES, 9/19).
