NEW BROWNS STADIUM DESIGN BEING PRESSURED?

Cleveland's new football stadium's drawings were unveiled
yesterday and were "not received with open arms," according to Ed
Meyer in the Akron BEACON JOURNAL. The design, unveiled by HOK's
chief stadium architect Dennis Wellner, features: an east-west
configuration from end zone to end zone - consistent to old
Cleveland Stadium; two decks and 10,000 seats in one endzone for
the Dawg Pound; three decks, with luxury suites above and below
the first and second decks and a majority of the 8,000 club seats
along the sidelines; and lower sightlines. Missing from the
presentation were plans for a stadium restaurant and conference
rooms. Planning Committee Chair Edward Rybka "voiced concerns"
over why the structure was "not north-south [and] why there
aren't more (affordable) seats from sideline to sideline? (Akron
BEACON JOURNAL, 9/19).
