THE CRASH DAVIS SHOW? BULLS EYE TV AS THEY MOVE TO TRIPLE-A

The ascent of the Durham Bulls to Triple-A status may prompt
the club to seek greater exposure and revenue through a local TV
deal, according to the TRIANGLE BUSINESS JOURNAL. Raleigh-based
Capitol Broadcasting Co., which owns the Bulls, also owns local
CBS affiliate WRAL-TV and leases air time on independent station
WRAZ-TV. By placing Bulls games on either station, Capitol
President Jim Goodmon could "parlay" his properties into an
entertainment in a smaller version of what Ted Turner has done
with the Braves and TBS. While noting that previous broadcasts
on WRAL have been ratings disappointments, WRAL/WRAZ Program Dir
Jim Griffin is optimistic about showing AAA level. This season,
eight of 28 Triple-A clubs will have games televised, compared to
two of 28 Double-A teams and four of 82 Class A teams (Scott
Tillett, Raleigh-Durham TRIANGLE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/22).
