PENNSYLVANIA STADIUM DEVELOPMENT PLAN TO BE DELAYED

     A state task force currently studying stadium development
issues for potential new facilities for the Pirates, Steelers,
Phillies and Eagles has received an extension on a July 1
deadline for delivering its report to PA Gov. Tom Ridge.
According to this morning's PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, the report,
now expected in late July, will not contain specific funding
recommendations.  Meanwhile, Gov. Ridge's spokesperson, Tim
Reeves, said that no matter what the task force recommends, the
state will not be able to fund 50% of the Pirates' proposed $187-
208M stadium -- as requested by Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy's
Forbes Field II Task Force (Edward Moran, PHILADELPHIA DAILY
NEWS, 6/27).
