NCAA'S DEMPSEY TAKES OFFENSE TO BEING "DUMPED ON" BY STERN

NCAA Exec Dir Cedric Dempsey said he "resents" comments made
by NBA Commissioner David Stern on NBC this past Sunday that the
NCAA should accept the responsibility for the increasing numbers
of underclassman leaving school for the NBA. Dempsey: "I resent
him dumping everything on the NCAA. If he really wants to
control it, he needs to get with the player agents, and that
means working with his Players Association. ... Several of the
players coming out are in high school. I don't know how that can
be the NCAA's responsibility." Dempsey said he would like to
meet with Stern to discuss the issue, but he will wait until a
task force's study on underclassman leaving early is complete in
June (Jonathan Feigen, HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 5/22).
