LEAGUE NOTES

     "NBC Nightly News" chronicled the run of "outrageous
remarks" by Reds Owner Marge Schott, which have prompted fellow
owners to consider taking action against her.  Henry Aaron said
MLB should "crack down harder" on Schott.  Aaron:  "It's an
embarrassment to baseball.  It's an embarrassment to the City of
Cincinnati.  It's an embarrassment for mankind for her to
continue to make these racist jokes" (NBC, 5/22)....The N.Y.
TIMES' Claire Smith examined the wives of MLB coaches, players
and managers who have formed "Women in the Major Leagues."  Led
by Susan Johnson, wife of Orioles Manager Davey Johnson, the
group of 130 members "is highlighting its rightful as well as
socially responsible place in the structure of the game" (N.Y.
TIMES, 5/23).
