STADIUM NOTES

     Virginia Baseball Exec VP Michael Scanlon told all-sports
WTEM's Tony Kornheiser that K.C-based HOK is the top choice to
design a new Northern VA ballpark (THE DAILY).  Business
columnist Rudolph Pyatt criticizes leaders of the Northern VA
group who are asking for public assistance to help finance a new
stadium.  Pyatt calls on the group to "step up to the plate
itself" (WASHINGTON POST, 5/16)....The Sabres and Marine Midland
Bank will offer a "sneak peek" of their new arena to fans on
Sunday.  Since the arena is still under construction, fans will
not be able to visit certain sections (Sabres)....Broncos Owner
Pat Bowlen appeared in front of the Denver City Club to lobby for
a stadium tax to help fund a new home for the Broncos.  Bowlen
said if voters refuse to authorize the stadium, they will have a
"mediocre football team playing in a half-empty, rundown stadium
with games blacked out" (Co. Springs GAZETTE TELEGRAPH, 5/16).
