OLYMPIC NOTES

The Federal Government is spending $227M over five years to
support the '96 Games, according to VP Al Gore. The breakdown:
$104.9M (transportation); $69.8M (security); $18.5M (emergency
preparedness); $12.5 (construction and operations); $10.1
(Defense Dept); $5M (telecom); $6.6M (Misc.). This estimate does
not include "millions" HUD is spending to rehabilitate public
housing (USA TODAY, 5/15)....Moments after ACOG officials began a
media tour to show off the new Olympic Stadium Tuesday, a stadium
worker suffered a head injury from a falling piece of metal and
had to be lowered in a basket. The man was taken to a local
hospital where he reported to be conscious. The incident marked
the third time a construction accident involving Olympic sites
has occurred this year ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 5/14)....As noted
yesterday, the U.S. Postal Service has agreed to give Olympic
organizers two-thirds of the proceeds from sales of its T-shirts
depicting '96 Olympic postage stamps (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION,
5/15).
