Embattled Reds Owner Marge Schott is the subject of a SPORTS
ILLUSTRATED cover story by Rick Reilly. In the article, Schott
explains why she is a magnet for negative press coverage: "I
think somebody is trying to get me out, honey, somebody wants to
buy the team. It's kind of a vendetta against me, honey. It's
kind of like a woman thing." Despite the fact Schott would earn
$30M from a sale of the team, she says she does not "want to
cave, baby." In addition to talk MLB wants Schott to sell,
General Motors wants her to let go of her auto dealership because
of poor sales performance. According to documents obtained by
SI, a former Reds employee received ownership notices and a
service number for a '96 vehicle that he not only does not own
but was reportedly bought from one of Schott's lots. Schott
attributes the notice to a mixup and denies falsifying documents
to boost sales reports. He chronicles her past racist and
prejudicial comments: On her meeting with Japanese Prime
Minister Kiichi Miyazawe during a goodwill visit. In a
"cartoonish accent": "He says to me, honey, he says, `No want
Cadirrac, no want Rincoln, want Mosh Shott Boo-ick" (SPORTS
ILLUSTRATED, 5/20 issue).
