FRANCHISE NOTES

The Raptors announced they will raise the cost of 30% of
their tickets. The highest hike will be in the blue section --
up to C$82.50 from last year's C$75 (FINANCIAL POST, 5/10)....The
ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER writes to look for a new Angels
entertainment scheme to begin May 24 when Disney officially takes
over the franchise (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 5/13)....Unlike other
MLB teams, the Orioles probably won't consider moving the start
times of their weeknight home games from 7:35pm to 7:05pm.
Orioles VP Joe Foss cited the large fan base in the DC area as
the key reason (WASHINGTON POST, 5/13)....Attendance at the first
17 Blue Jays games this year was 502,454, the team's lowest since
the first two months of '89 (N.Y. TIMES, 5/12)....The Twins spent
about $600,000 to insure Kirby Puckett's five-year, $30M
contract. Puckett, the only Twins player whose contract is
insured, has yet to play a game this year (Minneapolis STAR-
TRIBUNE, 5/12)....The 49ers dedicated 49ers Academy, a new East
Palo Alto school designed to help young people in one of the Bay
Area's poorest communities (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/12).... The Rangers
will likely hold spring training in Port Charlotte, FL, instead
of moving to Las Vegas (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/11)....Knicks
season ticket holders "are saying they've already heard they're
in for another price increase" (N.Y. TIMES, 5/13).
