CNBC PROMOS NHL'S "CUP CRAZY" CAMPAIGN

CNBC's "Sports View" profiled the NHL's "Cup Crazy" Playoff
promotion and other recent marketing efforts, noting that the
league is attempting to establish April as "NHL territory" and,
in general, supersede baseball as the country's third most
popular sport behind the NFL and NBA. Sportstyle Magazine's Mike
Jacobsen: "You know why? Nike. Nike is getting involved with
hockey and they are starting to market their players like they
market them in other sports." NHL COO Steve Solomon, on the tie-
ins to in-line skating and street hockey: "The opportunity to
get the stick into the hands of kids makes them all of the sudden
a fan of the game, a television fan of the game and part of our
future." Rangers forward Marty McSorely: "You have Disney
involved in the game. You have other big media and cable
television and it's great for the game. It helps them. It helps
us" (CNBC, 4/16).
