DID LACK OF MEDIA COVERAGE CAUSED EXTINCTION OF MOOSE?

The period of time when an expected move of the Jets to MN
"consumed the media on a daily basis" may have been a key factor
in the IHL Minnesota Moose's decision to move to Winnipeg,
reports John Gilbert of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Despite
averaging 6,000 a game before the decision to depart for
Winnipeg, many Moose officials feel the team could have survived
in MN with the help of increased media coverage. Moose coach
Frank Serratore, on the meager coverage hockey receives in MN:
"We weren't even given the courtesy of disrespect by TV radio and
TV. They wouldn't even give our scores on TV. ... And I'm
talking all of hockey, not just us. Kansas City gives more
coverage to its IHL team than the Twin Cities media gives to
Gophers hockey" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/15)....The IHL's
L.A. Ice Dogs played their final game at the Sports Arena, a 6-4
loss to the Phoenix Roadrunners. The Dogs will open next season
in Long Beach (L.A. TIMES, 4/15).
