NATIONSBANK THE NEWEST PLAYER IN BREWERS STADIUM SAGA

While there were no developments yesterday on the "financial
logjam" threatening the new Brewers stadium, today's MILWAUKEE
JOURNAL SENTINEL reports that team officials, representatives
from NationsBank, state point man James Klauser and Wisconsin
Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) Exec Dir Fritz
Ruf will meet within the next few days. The Brewers sought to
revise financing and shift a $50M loan from the team to the
stadium authority. At issue is whether NationsBank (which,
according to Brewers VP Laurel Prieb, has taken over lead
position on the team's debt) or WHEDA will have "first call" on
Brewers revenues. WHEDA was to loan the Brewers the $50M. The
state will ask NationsBank to take a subordinate position, while
it is still possible that the bank will be the one to loan the
team the $50M. As payment, the Brewers could give NationsBank
the estimated $3.85M a year in maintenance payments that they had
proposed giving back to the stadium board (Kenneth Lamke,
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 2/23).
