STADIUM NOTES

In a letter to Orioles Owner Peter Angelos, Maryland Stadium
Authority Chairman John Moag rebutted Angelos' claim he is
entitled to have his Camden Yards lease "sweetened to bring it
into parity" with the Browns deal. Moag suggested the state is
"under no obligation" to build a new training facility and luxury
boxes to accommodate Angelos. Moag did acknowledge that the
Orioles are entitled to the same 50-50 split of revenues from
non-baseball events that the Browns will receive (Baltimore SUN,
1/30)....Broward County Commissioners meet today to decide
whether to authorize formal negotiations to build a $212M arena
for the Panthers (MIAMI HERALD, 1/30)....In his State of the
City address, Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer unveiled a slogan for
those who support using $40M in city bonds for a new ballpark.
In March, voters will choose between Proposals A and B, with A
against stadium funding and B in support of it. Archer:
"Remember a simple formula for voting on Tiger Stadium: A is for
awful, B is for best" (DETROIT NEWS, 1/30).
