SOME MARYLAND LEGISLATORS TARGET BROWNS, SKINS DEALS

     In an attempt to "generate publicity and opposition" to new
stadiums for the Browns and Redskins, a group of MD legislators
plan to introduce a package today which would kill the proposed
projects and reroute the $273M earmarked for stadiums into school
construction.  According to the Baltimore SUN, sponsors don't
expect the bills to pass because of Gov. Parris Glendening's veto
but they hope to delay a final vote until late March.  A
spokesperson for Glendening said the governor is "surprised at
the depth of unhappiness with the stadium projects and expected
the news that we had finally returned an NFL team to Maryland to
be warmly received" (Thomas Waldron, Baltimore SUN, 1/30).
