STADIUM NOTES

     The N.Y. POST reports the NHL and NHLPA are working to put
the Canada-U.S. World Cup game at Madison Square Garden during
Labor Day weekend.  Other sites include Ottawa, Vancouver,
Montreal and Philadelphia (N.Y. POST, 1/15)..... The S.F. Giants
will officially kick off their new ballpark campaign this
Saturday, but team execs have "been quietly meeting with major
property owners in the South Beach area" (S.F. CHRONICLE,
1/15)....Rockies GM Bob Gebhard met with Las Vegas officials who
are trying to sell the team on moving its spring training
operation to the city.  The Rockies are one of several teams
being pursued by Las Vegas officials (Colorado Springs GAZETTE-
TELEGRAPH, 1/16).
