KNBR-AM in San Francisco has dropped Scott Ferrall's
syndicated sports-talk show after Ferrall "ripped station program
director Bob Agnew on the air." KNBR will replace Ferrall with
ESPN's Fabulous Sports Babe. Agnew, who had originally signed
Ferrall's show, said they "were growing a little unhappy with the
content and quality. The Babe seriously upgrades our quality"
(Victor Chi, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 1/11). Ferrall attacked
Agnew after hearing his show would be moved to a 1-4am slot,
saying: "I will dedicate my life to ruining that little wuss."
C.W. Nevius writes that Ferrall has "moved further and further
away from sports, where he has some real knowledge, and more into
heavy metal music and long odd bits" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/11).
MORE MOVES: Dick Stockton will not return as play-by-play
announcer for the A's in '96, according to Nevius. Stockton's
first-class travel was reportedly "too expensive for KRON and
aside from a recognizable 'network voice,' the station wasn't
getting much back" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/11).... In Baltimore,
departed Oriole pitching coach Mike Flanagan will become lead
analyst on HTS next season, working 112 of 151 O's games. Jim
Palmer will do 50 games, up from 30 last season. Flanagan
replaces 12-year HTS analyst John Lowenstein (Milton Kent,
Baltimore SUN, 1/8)....In Detroit, in an effort to boost ratings,
all-sports WDFN-AM "fired" morning personalities Keith Gave and
Butch Stearns and evening host Ike Griffith. Pete Rose's
syndicated talk show will air in Griffith's place. The station
reportedly "trimmed" $250,000 in salaries (Ted Kulfan, DETROIT
NEWS, 1/10)....The Fabulous Sports Babe is the feature of a
lengthy profile in this morning's BOSTON GLOBE. Nathan Cobb
examines Nancy Donnellan's life and finds that although she
claims she is 40 years old, her MA birth certificate and FL
drivers license say she is 47 (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/11).
