MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

Nike is among the companies "increasingly running ads" in
movie theatres -- a trend analysts predict could draw as much as
$30M this year from marketers. Nike's Tom Feuer: "Commercials
(at movie houses) are a hell of a lot better than some of the
trailers you see for movies" (USA TODAY, 11/29)....The current
ELECTRONIC MEDIA features Scidel's virtual advertising. Scidel
will reportedly test the system early next year on SportSouth.
Scidel claims it will use the system to enhance advertising for
marketers, not as an ambush tactic (Wayne Walley, ELECTRONIC
MEDIA, 11/27).... ABC reported on "Tour 18," a TX golf course
which uses video and virtual reality to re-create 18 top golf
holes. While some courses with signature holes copied by "Tour
18" are suing for trademark infringement (including Pebble
Beach), Miami's Doral feels complemented. A Las Vegas "Tour 18"
course is in the works ("World News Tonight," 11/28).... While
some collectors believe certain Browns souvenirs could increase
in value after a move to Baltimore, Bob Stone, owners of
Cleveland sports chain Scarlet and Grey, reports that sales of
new Browns merchandise is off 90% when compared to last year
(Akron BEACON JOURNAL, 11/29).
