SOUTH CAROLINA CITY FLOATS PROPOSAL TO HORNETS

A consultant hired by the Hornets is weighing a 38-page
proposal from SC officials that would help the club build a new
$100-150M arena in Fort Mill, SC. The Charlotte BUSINESS JOURNAL
reports Hornets Owner George Shinn already has interest in a
possible Fort Mill site, as his AAA baseball club and Hornets
practice facility are both located there. SC officials say
incentives could include a new tax district that would allow half
the proceeds from a SC tax on Hornets tickets to go toward
highway, water and sewer improvements; allowing the arena to
avoid certain taxes; and using state money for "major highway
improvements." The club is expected to sign a short-term lease
with Charlotte to remain at the Charlotte Coliseum for the time
being (Spanberg & Harris, Charlotte BUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/13).
