PHILLY MAY BENEFIT FROM PITTSBURGH'S WOES

Although both the Eagles and Phillies are bound to Veterans
Stadium until 2011, Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell "has made
building a new stadium a high priority," according to Michael
Sokolove in the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. One of the two teams will
likely be left behind at the old facility and "the bulk of the
money for a new stadium" will "probably come from the state."
Sokolove notes that last month, PA Gov. Tom Ridge created the
"Governor's Sports and Exposition Facilities Task Force" that
could become a public authority. While Pittsburgh leaders push
for a new stadium for the Pirates, state politics dictate that
"whatever Pittsburgh gets" will almost certainly have to be
matched in Philadelphia (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 11/12).
