BROADCASTING & CABLE LOOKS AT TV PREPARATION FOR OLYMPICS

The current issue of BROADCASTING & CABLE devotes its cover
story to preparation for the '96 Olympics. Articles in the
current issue cover everything from NBC's "virtual broadcast
center" to competition between satellite companies to clear time
to feed Olympic coverage around the world (BROADCASTING & CABLE,
10/23 issue).
OF INTEREST: With the use fiber optics, NBC will not build
a "massive broadcast center" on site, instead the network will
link feeds from Atlanta and New York. Much of the money being
spent on new equipment for the Games is going to NBC's New York
operation. Another article focuses on Panasonic's work as
official equipment supplier. As for satellite operations, a
profile of Comsat's Atlanta work notes the company expects $2.8M
in revenue from Olympic sales to int'l markets (BROADCASTING &
CABLE, 10/23 issue).
