     USA Track & Field President LARRY ELLIS underwent a heart
transplant and was listed in critical condition in New York
(WASHINGTON POST, 6/10)....Neck-ties of former Kings Owner BRUCE
MCNALL were sold at a garage sale held by his soon to be ex-wife
JANE CODY.  They sold for $10 a piece (AP/TORONTO STAR,
6/12)....At a party thrown by the Magic at Universal Studios
Thursday, NBA Commissioner DAVID STERN appeared in a fire-
breathing monster truck, called the Shaquille Mobile.  When asked
if he enjoyed the ride, Stern replied:  "All I did was sweat in
the damn thing" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 6/10)....MARGIE BOWES has
entered to play in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship to
be held in July.  It is the first time a woman has attempted to
play in a men's tournament in the 100-year history of the USGA
(BOSTON GLOBE, 6/10)....An interview with JOE MONTANA aired
Friday on "Dateline" (NBC, 6/9).... Reports in Buffalo say that
Rangers President & GM NEIL SMITH will soon be running the
Sabres' hockey operations (TORONTO SUN, 6/11)....The Hornets have
hired BOB BASS to head their basketball ops (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER,
6/11)....TREVOR EYTON, on the board of Labatt's and SkyDome, is
reportedly interested in being part of a group to purchase the
Blue Jays should Labatt's buyer, Interbrew SA, look to sell.
Eyton:  "I'd want to be surrounded by lots of partners.  I
wouldn't want to pay out $50-million" (TORONTO SUN, 6/10).
