Throwback Thursday: The Bryce Is Right
Seven years ago this week, the Nationals agreed to a five-year, $9.9M deal with OF Bryce Harper, the “richest draft deal ever signed by a position player.” The deal, which included a $6.25M signing bonus, was reached just before the midnight deadline to sign picks. As the deadline approached, the Nationals and Harper’s agent, Scott Boras, “pushed aside small differences.” With three other signings, the Nationals “pledged $13,699,000 in a single day -- still about $1.4 million less than the total contract signed by their first pick in 2009,” P Stephen Strasburg.
