Marlins' Samson Predicts Sellout For HR Derby, All-Star Game

Marlins President David Samson today said he predicts tonight’s Home Run Derby and tomorrow’s MLB All-Star Game will still sell out, despite tickets for both events remaining available on the league’s official page allstargame.com. Appearing this morning at a dedication for a newly refurbished youth baseball field, Samson said the ticket distribution is proceeding as expected. “This is all going according to plan, and we are above our budget goal for these events,” he said. “Once we get to the Derby and All-Star Game, every ticket will be sold.”

T-Mobile, the title sponsor for tonight’s Home Run Derby, will again show the event live on the large video board above its store in Times Square. This is the second straight year the mobile carrier has shown the Derby live in the outdoor setting. T-Mobile tonight also will debut a new national TV ad featuring Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton, the returning Derby champion. The spot, titled “The Nickname,” features a fan with “unlimited access” to the Derby seeking to coin a new moniker for the slugger. Stanton also will be a featured guest at the “Derby After Dark” afterparty T-Mobile is hosting tonight after the Derby for invited guests in Miami Beach.

In other Derby activation, MLB streaming partner TuneIn will allow fans to unlock TuneIn Premium MLB play-by-play. The free access will depend on the number of home runs hit during competition: five free days for 100 cumulative home runs, seven days for 150 or 10 for 200.
